Dan at Grand Performance Bicycle Shop brought me a standard cable stop repair, but not for the normal reason.   Dan’s thighs are quite large and while riding his thighs would rub the cable stop and draw blood!

As I went to move the cable stop inward on the frame, I saw that there was a hole that was drilled/filled at the factory!  The factory had started drilling in the “right” place but then changed their mind and positioned the cable stop outboard.

Notice the white dot on the top picture.  That’s the filled hole.

After, the cable stop was moved inboard to avoid cutting Dan’s thighs.

Paul received his Appleman earlier this winter, but couldn’t get it on the road until (most of) the snow melted.  This bike was designed for comfort and efficiency.  The diameter and layup of the tubing was designed to fit Paul’s riding style and the custom geometry put him in a comfortable, upright position.

Paul rode the full century at the MN Ironman Bike Ride/Gran Fondo aboard his comfort-built Appleman!  Keep up the great rides!

One of many reasons I’m obsessed with carbon fiber is its inherent, natural beauty.   While testing new materials, I haphazardly created this beautiful carbon fiber shape.  The picture shows two layers of unidirectional carbon that is cross-plied together, wrapped around a tube and frozen in shape.   Each layer consists of 12,000 (12k) individual carbon filaments.  Notice how each layer gently spreads to conform to the shape.  Beauty in the raw.

A few weeks ago, Steve Hed came to the Appleman shop and I helped make a few modifications to a bike project they were bringing to Sea Otter.

This year is Campagnolo’s 80th anniversary of Super Record components.  Steve Hed also had a 50th anniversary group as well.  He wanted to bring two identical frames with each group for a true comparison of the groups.

I added riv-nuts for mounting the down tube shifter bosses and helped straighten out the internal routing (one of many repairs I do).

Rich picked up his new Appleman road bike today!  Rich brought in a frame with severe damage after an accident.  Repairing the damage wasn’t a viable option (while very rare, there are a few frames I can’t fix).  The stars aligned and I had an Appleman from the demo fleet in his size!

This frame features stealthy carbon on carbon logos and custom tubing for a great ride feel!  It’s great to give this bike a permanent home knowing that it will be ridden quickly and often.

This just in!  Enve’s road disc fork will be going on an upcoming Appleman frame!

On my scale, the fork weighs 448 grams, has a 1.5″ tapered steerer tube, and an integrated cable guide!   The post mount for the brake caliper is for 140mm rotors and can be upped to 160mm with an adapter.

Our first dedicated disc road frame is going to be a good one for a super strong rider who will need the extra braking power!
